9 Turkish teams win awards at robotics world championship in Texas

9 of the Turkish teams participating in the 2024 FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) world championship held in Texas, U.S.A., with 17 teams at the high school level, were awarded in various categories.

In the championship held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston between April 17-21, approximately 600 robotics teams from various countries competed with the robots they produced.

Among the Turkish students participating in the competition, the Wildcast team from Istanbul won the biggest prize in the robot performance category, ranking 5th in the world among 600 teams in the championship, while the 4th Dimension team won the most prestigious award in the social awards category.

Turkish teams named SPARC, Kaiser, Flare, Istech Robotic Society, Golden Horn and CARACAL Robotics were awarded in various categories.

In addition, Techtolia Robotics, an all-girl team, was one of the 9 Turkish teams that returned from the championship with an award.

While approximately 22 thousand students from all over the world participated in the FRC event, where future engineer candidates took part, Türkiye, with 400 students, was the country with the largest number of participants in the championship after the host U.S.A. and Canada.

Türkiye was also the country represented by the highest number of female students in the championship, with 44 percent of the members of the 17 teams from various provinces, especially Istanbul and Ankara, consisting of female students.

FRC determines the rules and frameworks for robots to be developed in a different concept every year. Students who produce the desired robots in a limited time must first rank in regional competitions in order to qualify for the world championship.
