National Telecommunication Dispatch Week, a time to recognize and give thanks to emergency operators

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Since 1981, every second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in emergency communication centers are honored in what’s known as “National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week”.

This week is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. Though we may not see 9-1-1 dispatchers, they are the voice we hear that helps guide us during a crisis.

In 2023, the Casper Police Department responded to over 55-thousand calls for service, and of those calls, 4,000  were priority 1 calls, meaning a call that requires immediate response with reason to believe that an immediate threat to life exists.

This past year, Natrona County Dispatch answered nearly 30-thousand calls, with over 13-thousand administrative calls, which works out to almost 444 calls per day.
