Frontier Communications reports cyberattack
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Frontier Communications reported a data breach by a cybercrime group.
The telecommunications company filed a report with the SEC on April 14 that a third party hacked its IT systems.
The company said among other information taken was PII, or personally identifiable information.
In its SEC report, Frontier said it followed its protocols and shut down affected systems, causing a disruption in service. It also reported the breach to law enforcement.
Frontier, which is owned by Verizon, provides DSL, or high-speed internet over phone lines. It is working on installing and expanding a fiber broadband network.
Frontier has coverage in the outer Illinois Quad Cities region.
The Federal Trade Commission has a one-stop resource for people who believe their information was or could have been stolen: identitytheft.gov. It includes reporting the crime and making a recovery plan.
