Generative AI solutions: Pioneering industry innovation at SAS

Untitled design6

Generative artificial intelligence solutions offer immense transformative potential and risks, making the creation of a trusted ecosystem essential to fostering innovation and public good.

SAS Institute Inc. has a unique domain-specific IP that combines data and analytics, making it a rare option for customers looking to simplify their ecosystem and reduce vendor costs, according to John Boyd (pictured), vice president of solutions product management at SAS. It is essentially aiming at solving industry problems with vertical and horizontal solutions, focusing on reducing time to value and making data more consumable for customers.

“If you look at the market out there, you see a lot of people who are in the data and analytics space or people who are vendors in specific industries that are leveraging data and AI,” Boyd said. “I think that’s where our solutions make us unique in SAS because we bring both to the table. Why that’s important is because when customers out there looking to simplify their ecosystem and reduce vendor costs, etc., we’re one of the few options that can provide that both flavor for a build versus buy for them.”

Boyd spoke with theCUBE Research’s John Furrier and Dave Vellante at SAS Innovate, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how SAS is heavily investing in AI to create a platform for model governance and business workflow, with a focus on generative AI. (* Disclosure below.)

SAS leads with unique generative AI solutions for enhanced data utilization

The future of AI will involve prompts in generative AI working in the background to provide recommendations and courses of action based on data analysis, according to Boyd.

The use of saved prompts in AI models is an indicator of where the technology is heading, with AI quickly figuring out real prompts based on the market basket, leading to improved business operations, Boyd added. Different industries have varying levels of interest in AI, with regulated industries being more hesitant, but SAS solutions can alleviate the burden and provide turnkey solutions.

“I think the differentiation is the optionality that we provide to say you can buy whatever you want, you can build whatever you want, and it doesn’t have to be ours. We are not afraid to say we’re boxing people out,” Boyd said. “We are going to stand on the value of our solutions as they stand. We’re going to create an open ecosystem where other people can integrate, and they can choose where they want to plug in things, where they want to use our things, etc., and we will win them on the value.”
