Telecommunication review visits Benalla and Rochester
The Regional Telecommunications Review occurs every three years under the Telecommunications (Consumer Protection and Service Standards) Act 1999 and will visit Victoria on Friday, May 3 at Benalla and Rochester.
The review is an opportunity to examine the existing and future telecommunication needs in regional, rural and remote communities across Australia.
Federal Communications Minister Michelle Rowland announced on Wednesday, April 24 the appointment of former Western Australia government cabinet member Alannah MacTiernan as chair.
The committee has been asked to examine regional Australia’s telecommunications and report its findings to the Federal Government by December 31.
Ms MacTiernan said the review was an opportunity for Victorians to come to a face-to-face consultation and that she was keen to hear about issues from rural residents.
“With our visit to Victoria locked in, there are options there for people to have their say,” she said.
“Access to decent telecommunications is critical for regional residents and businesses across so many aspects of everyday life.
“We want to understand what people across regional and remote Australia experience in the delivery of voice and broadband services, and what the issues are that impact them.”
