Apple Again Discusses Use Of OpenAI Generative AI Technology For New IPhone Features

JAKARTA – Apple Inc has restarted discussions with OpenAI on the use of the generating artificial intelligence technology from the startup to support some of the new features to be introduced on the iPhone this year, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, April 26.

The companies have begun to discuss the terms of potential agreement and how OpenAI features will be integrated into the next iPhone operating system, iOS 18.

Apple and OpenAI have not yet responded to requests for comment from the media on the report.

Bloomberg reported last month that Apple was in talks to license Google’s Gemini chatbot for new iPhone features.

Apple has yet to make a final decision on which partners will be used, and could reach an agreement with both OpenAI and Alphabet Inc’s Google or select other providers as a whole.

Apple is considered slower in implementing generative artificial intelligence, which can generate human-like responses to written prompts, than competitors like Microsoft and Google, which have integrated them into their products.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said in February that the company was investing “significatively” in generative artificial intelligence and would reveal more about its plans to use the technology this year.
