Electric vehicles are hands-down winners – Daily Freeman

Nothing speaks “contempt” for our environment like George Will’s diatribe against electric vehicles (April 14).  Citing disinformation from the fossil industry-fueled Koch mouthpiece “American Enterprise Institute,” he ignores the far greater inputs to producing and operating fossil vehicles.

The only reason for Big Fossil’s relentless anti-EV campaign is that electric motors are 90% efficient vs. about 25-30% for fossil engines, which waste most energy in pollution, heat, and noise. When powered by renewable energy, which these same fossil toadies are also trashing, EVs are hands-down winners. Big Fossil thrives on waste; climate and human health be damned. EVs also require much less maintenance.

China is now mass producing EVs for about $10,000 each. They also produced more solar photovoltaic wattage in one year than our total to date!  Why are we letting China take the lead and American jobs? Fossil industry purchase of our politicians!  Repeal Citizens United!

Are there glitches in EV rollout? Sure. But if  Koch owned the horse and buggy industry, our roads would be clogged with a different kind of feces than Mr. Will is purveying.

Replacing one private automobile with a far superior one is not a panacea. Many modern countries have high-speed electric rail transit systems that outrun cars, reducing the need for as many cars and extended- range batteries. Sadly, political corruption has stymied progress in American mass transit as well.

The Freeman should prioritize forward thinkers over venal apologists for polluting outmoded fossil energy.
