GREENWOOD, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Robots made by middle schoolers at East Hills Middle School will be competing at the world competition from May 1 through May 3.

The SandBots, a group of sixth graders, have recently earned two state championship titles and are now preparing for their journey to go to the world championship.

“They said ‘every time I hear the SandBots name I start shivering in fear,’” said Christian Meyers, SandBots team member.

This isn’t the team’s first time making their way to the world competition. The team has made their way to the world tournament three times.

“We worked our tail end off. And we had great, great teachers, great teams, and our robots were pretty good,” one of the team members said.

The experience is like no other, people from all over the world fly in to compete. Coach Ryan Hunter said that the team has to communicate with different cultures and strategize with a team that might not even speak the same language.

“I hope we walk away with an award or two and just like a feeling that we did good and we did our best,” team member Landry Williams said.
