BIT Mesra Alumni Group Holds Event On Generative AI
On March 31, BITOSA Silicon Valley organized a free community event titled “Decoding Generative AI” at the Village Square branch of the San Jose library. BITOSA Silicon Valley is a group of more than 1000 alumni from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, who reside there.
The event began with a keynote talk by Pravat Rout, Founder & CEO of Inovaare, who shared his experiences of using generative AI in the healthcare domain to address practical issues like delays in medical test authorization, non-compliant rejections, and increasing operating costs for providers.
Next, Subbu Subramanian from Meta; Shirish Kumar from Liveramp; Saurabh Saxena from Uniphore; Amit Mahajan from Twilio; Rama Govindaraju from Google; Anjana Surin from Visa; and Mitesh Kumar Singh from Facebook AI (Meta) engaged in a panel discussion about how established tech companies are using generative AI. They revealed that most organizations have adopted generative AI as an assistive technology to improve on their other products and processes.
Hasmukh Ranjan, CIO of AMD, closed out the day-long event with a talk in which he forecast that generative AI will lead to significant productivity gains in the future. Contrary to popular belief, he said that generative AI will not cause a net loss of jobs.
More than 60 people attended the in-person event, which was also live-streamed for other BIT Mesra alumni around the world.
