Brownsville Mexican Consulate launch Female Entrepreneurs Program
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Mexican Consulate of Brownsville is looking for participants for this year’s Women’s Entrepreneur Program.
The program is designed for Mexican and Spanish-speaking women abroad that are interested in becoming business owners.
The consulate will train women in the coming months on how to start businesses in the Rio Grande Valley.
The program is also open to women outside of the border.
“In Mexico we understand that anything good for the Valley is also good for the neighbors,” said Judith Arrieta, General Consul of Mexico. “It is also open for any lady who is willing to participate from Matamoros.”
Arrieta hopes to strengthen the relationship between Texas and Mexico, as Mexico’s Nacional Financiera will provide resources for the program.
She also wants to help equal opportunities for women in the Valley.
“They are winners. They are warriors. They are ladies- why ladies? Why women? Because sometimes we think many jobs and many things are thought for men, and probably they can do this,” said Arrieta.
The program then puts the women’s business plans into a contest. Since its launch last year, she says the program will announce 3 “winners” in September, who compete abroad with new enterprises.
Women can apply for the program on the Brownsville consulate’s website and social media until May 13th.
