Cybersecurity training teaches Northeast Tennessee students dangers of the internet

Students from Northeast Tennessee are learning about the dangers of the internet through cybersecurity training at an area community college.

On Friday around two dozen students from Sulphur Springs and Mountain City took part in ‘Cyber Day’ at Northeast State Community College.

The training day was made possible through a collaborative grant from the Nicewonger Foundation and the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Students worked in teams to learn about the various dangers found on the internet, phishing scams and how to secure your information.

“It’s really important to us that they come in and we can show them that cyber security can be fun.,” said Anna Rodgers, a research engineer with the University of Alabama-Huntsville. “They learn a little bit about what it is so that they know if they continue into high school and potentially go to college or into the workforce that cybersecurity is an option.”

This event is part of a five year grant program which started in 2022, and is hosted twice each year at the college.
