Charles City Middle School Robotics Team Raising Money for Florida Competition – KCHA News
The Robotics Team at Charles City Middle School is “building” itself quite a resume as well as top-flight functioning robots.
Teacher Patrick Nyberg is the Talented and Gifted Coordinator and oversees the development of the Lego-based program.
Those efforts paid off earlier this year at the state competition when the Comets won first place in the robotics challenge and placed second overall. Nyberg says that earned them an invitation to a national contest in Florida in June, which will feature teams from 40 states as well as 25 international teams.
As part of their efforts to finance the trip, Middle School librarian and robotics coach Kelsey Vanderwerth says they’ll host a fundraiser this Sunday (05.05) from 1 to 4 pm in Comet Gym.
Vanderwerth says there will also be stem activities for the kiddos and a silent auction.
Vendors and artists are also invited to sell their items with a table rental for $20 for the entire three-hour event. For information, call the Middle School at 641-257-6530 or reached out to Vanderwerth or Nyberg through Facebook or their emails available on the staff directory page of the school district website.
