Coastal Alabama Kids Entrepreneurs put businesses to real-world test on May 11

Area students are set to open a series of new businesses on Saturday, May 11, through the inaugural Coastal Alabama Kids Entrepreneur Day initiative, which teaches elementary-aged youth the basics of entrepreneurship through workshops on branding, marketing, finance and stand building.

Organized by the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, this program was designed to help students successfully start and operate their own businesses through the guidance of both educators and local business owners. Students will be selling items such as beach gear, small toys, jewelry, cakes, food, drinks, seasonings and more, taking the skills they’ve learned and putting their concepts to the test across the Gulf Coast for the general public.

“It’s really amazing how much effort the students have put into our program,” said Penny Hughey, Vice President of Events & Programs for the Chamber, “We’ve had students go all out on their stands, design logos, and some have even shot commercials.”

The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber encourages the community to support its young entrepreneurs, with a full list of stands and locations across Foley, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach available at mygulfcoastchamber.com/cakeday.
