Friends raising funds for woman injured in automobile wreck | News
Local residents are working to raise money to assist Sheryl Alford Murphy, who was seriously injured in an automobile accident, by holding a fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1 at William “Bill” Wood Park in Madison.
Volunteers will be selling chicken barbecue plates and raffling off a smoker on that day. They will hold a second raffle for a 9 mm pistol on July 1, said Murphy’s friend, Ray Stapleton.
Murphy grew up in Buckhead and is a 1984 Morgan County High School graduate. She is still recovering from her injuries at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, which specializes in spinal cord injuries. She was injured March 6.
“She’s such a great person,” Stapleton said. “It’s such a sad situation.”
All funds raised will go toward Murphy’s medical expenses and long-term care.
“It’s just sad to see someone so full of life and then in a quick second life changes,” Stapleton said.
Tickets for the chicken plates cost $20. Raffle tickets for the smoker are $20 and the tickets for the pistol cost $25.
Tickets can be purchased at the Morgan County Farm Bureau. Donations and checks for tickets can be made to Farmers & Merchants Bank, 100 S. Madison Ave., Eatonton, Ga. 31024 to the account of Sheryl A. Murphy. For more information contact Ray Stapleton at 706-818-2100.
