Second round of Ohio EV charging stations announced
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Gov. Mike DeWine has announced nearly $16 million will go toward new electric vehicle charging stations throughout Ohio.
The second round of EV charging stations will include 22 new sites along Ohio’s interstates, U.S. routes and state routes.
Funding for these charging stations is part of the second round of the National EV Infrastructure Program. Ohio was the first state to activate a charging station as part of this national program.
“As more electric cars and trucks make their way to Ohio roadways, we’re continuing to build the infrastructure needed to enable easy and convenient travel,” said Gov. DeWine.
Ohio aims to have fast charging stations every 50 miles throughout the state. Each location will be no more than one mile from the freeway.
Twenty three chargers were previously announced in July 2023 as part of the first round of national funding. The first NEVI station in the country opened along I-70 in Madison County last December.
These 22 new chargers will be located on I-270, I-275, I-675, I-680, I-71, I-76, I-77, SR 15, U.S. 23, U.S. 30, and U.S. 33. Construction is expected to begin in late 2024 and 2025.
