Mr. O’Hearn’s journey in this field began in 2002 with a summer internship with Modern Continental Construction, where he first gained hands-on experience working on the Route 3 Expansion Project from Burlington, MA to Nashua, NH. His career trajectory continued with his introduction to the demolition industry with Testa Corp in 2006. After leaving Testa Corp in 2010, Mr. O’Hearn went on to work for NASDI and TDC. TDC was majority-owned by Jay Cashman. After leaving TDC, Mr. O’Hearn returned to work for NASDI, where he was the project manager for the demolition on the Bayonne Bridge Project connecting Bayonne, NJ to Staten Island, NY. Mr. O’Hearn’s strategic vision and operational insight ultimately led him to Atlantic Coasting Dismantling LLC, a large, heavy civil demolition contractor in Massachusetts, where he progressed from the chief estimator in 2016 to becoming the vice president in 2021.
Among various noteworthy projects throughout his tenure in the industry, Mr. O’Hearn is involved with the progressive design-build project called the I-10 Bayway, which will eventually require the demolition of a 14-mile bridge along I-10 in Mobile, Alabama. This significant undertaking underscores his commitment to challenging projects that substantially impact infrastructure development and environmental considerations.
In preparation for his career, Mr. O’Hearn’s academic journey began with a high school diploma from Stoneham High School in 2001. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science in civil and environmental engineering and a Master of Science in geotechnical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2007 and 2008, respectively. Mr. O’Hearn also received numerous professional credentials, including as a professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Vermont, an unrestricted construction supervisor designation through the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, a Class A Demolition License in Connecticut, and several safety credentials through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Adding to his professional success, Mr. O’Hearn is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, where he is active with its temporary works committee, where he serves on the demolition subcommittee. Moreover, he has contributed his expertise as a co-author of several industry-related works.
