OHIO’s Global Entrepreneurship Week events to include WeRateDogs founder, StartUp Market

The Center for Entrepreneurship and TechGROWTH Ohio are partnering to provide two very special events at Ohio University for Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest celebration of innovators, job creators, and entrepreneurs launching startups, bringing ideas to life, driving economic growth, and expanding human welfare.

The Center for Entrepreneurship enhances entrepreneurial education, University-based entrepreneurial activity, and regionally focused venture development in southeast Ohio. TechGROWTH Ohio is a $67 million public-private partnership composed of the Ohio Third Frontier program, Ohio University, and the private investment community and supports technology commercialization and small business incubation.

Ohio University’s celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week includes the following events.

Matt Nelson, founder of WeRateDogs

On Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. in the CoLab (Alden 301) WeRateDogs founder Matt Nelson will speak about his journey as an entrepreneur. Nelson created his social media-based business as a college student at West Virginia University in 2015. Today, he has more than a dozen employees, has raised millions of dollars for animals in need through a nonprofit foundation, and has done so much more.

During his time at the CoLab, Nelson will talk about starting and running a social media business, creating something as a student, and, of course, all the good dogs.

This event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are encouraged at this website.

StartUp Market

The second Global Entrepreneurship Week event, the StartUp Market: a popup shop, takes place Thursday, Nov. 16, from 3 – 6 p.m. in the CoLab (Alden 301).

The event will showcase Ohio University student artists and vendors, along with local businesses. Free food and beverages from local establishments will be served, with DJ AROC providing music and a photobooth.
