AI for Journalists: Supporting Responsible Coverage of Artificial Intelligence

AI technologies are impacting government and private sector decision-making including in a range of high stakes areas such as housing, finance, public benefits, policing, and healthcare. This is poised to accelerate with the advent of generative AI. Journalists have an essential role to play in telling the stories about the use of AI systems and their impacts on communities. The AI Spotlight Series from the Pulitzer Center aims to equip journalists to examine the black box of AI and cover the stories of how it affects society.

With MacArthur support, the free program has three tracks for different approaches: an introduction to AI reporting for journalists on any beat, an intensive for reporters focusing specifically on AI, and an editor’s guide. Journalists working in the Global South and covering communities underrepresented in media are encouraged to apply. Participants will join the AI Accountability Network to connect to the broader group of journalists who investigate the ways AI shapes and influences society.
