Tallinn: The Estonian government has come out strongly against Huawei, the Chinese telecommunications-IT firm. As Anna-Greta Tsahkna, vice-president of the Estonian IT and telecommunications association said, no government official or institution is allowed to deal with Huawei.
“We are aware of the geopolitical situation and the possibility of threats coming from the telecom-IT sector. We have made some clear rules to ensure there are no threats coming from Chinese technological companies. Which is why the government has taken the decision about Huawei,” she said. India has also arrived at a similar position as has several other countries.
Estonia remains a strong cyber power and Tsahkna pointed out that only 2 percent of the people actually get to the Income Tax office, fill out forms and submit their returns. The others do it digitally, saving trees that would need to be cut down to make the paper for the forms and the fuel necessary to drive to the office.
Tsahkna said Estonia was looking forward to working with India in the Information Technology, cyber security and defence sectors.
