Generative AI Will Allegedly Allow iOS 18 Users Create Custom Emojis : Tech : Tech Times
With WWDC just around the corner, anticipation is building as Apple prepares to unveil iOS 18, packed with innovative AI features and enhanced home screen customization.
One of the most exciting additions is a new AI-driven tool for creating custom emojis, set to change how users express themselves, a new rumor claims.
AI-Powered Emoji Creation
In the latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reveals that iOS 18 will allegedly introduce a “standout” AI feature: the ability to generate custom emojis.
Although it’s not that big of a change, it’s the newest way to “create unique emojis on the fly” tailored to the context of users’ messages.
With the power of generative AI, iPhone and iPad owners can soon utilize various emojis for any occasion.
Traditionally, the Cupertino tech giant has added new emojis annually with iOS updates.
For instance, iOS 17.4, released in March, introduced several new emoji characters. However, what’s new here is that the new generative AI feature will eliminate the wait for these updates, providing continuous and dynamic emoji customization throughout the year.

Enhanced Home Screen Customization
Gurman also highlights huge updates to home screen customization in iOS 18.
According to 9to5Mac, users will soon be able to re-color app icons, allowing for a more personalized home screen aesthetic. Additionally, the new update will enable users to place app icons and widgets more freely across their home screens, moving away from the current fixed grid system.
What to Expect from macOS 15
In addition to iOS 18, Gurman’s newsletter outlines expectations for macOS 15. While details remain hidden, the focus will likely be on integrating similar AI advancements to streamline user workflows and enhance productivity on Mac devices.
AI Integration Across Apps
Beyond emoji creation, iOS 18 will integrate AI capabilities across various apps, enhancing the overall user experience.
For example, there will be an upgrade for the Notes App where iPhone users can soon record voice memos. This is important when taking down notes during meetings. Not only could they record audio recordings they saved, but the same app will also allow them to merge mathematical expressions for their notes.
Aside from that, Apple’s Safari is set to receive AI-powered features in iOS 18. UI improvements, Web Eraser tool, and Intelligent Search are coming to the internet browser.
