Japanese Band Zwei Announces Disbandment; Known For Steins;Gate, Robotics;Notes, Umineko
The Japanese band Zwei has officially announced its disbandment after roughly two decades of performing. Zwei is known for producing theme songs for several anime and visual novels, notably Robotics;Notes and Steins Gate 0 from the Science Adventure series.
They were also involved with select vocal tracks for the Umineko When They Cry subseries, like the visual novel opening “Inanna no Mita Yume,” which is one of my favorites.
For Steins;Gate 0, they performed the anime adaptation’s ending theme, “LAST GAME.” Another example is for Robotics;Notes DaSH, where they performed the opening theme, “Avant Story.”
Megu and Ayumu, both members of the band, have announced that they’ll pursue music production solo and hope fans will continue to support their efforts moving forward.
They shared comments about these developments to fans, translated below by the Science Adventure fansite Kiri Kiri Basara.
Megu: After about twenty years as Zwei’s bassist, what I feel is a sense of accomplishment. We worked recklessly, absorbed entirely in our craft until at last, our dreams came to fruition. The fact that I can say this is, of course, thanks to you, our many fans. Your support is what gave me a place where I felt I could be me.
The music I like hasn’t changed; there’s still much more I want to do. There are also things that I couldn’t do. From here on, I want to continue to show my love in my own way. If that can keep bringing smiles to your faces, I’ll be gratified. My little honeys, I love you from the bottom of my heart, from here on and into the future! Thank you for allowing me to encounter you all. See you soon!
Ayumu: Thank you very much for cheering Zwei on. It’s because I could come all this way that I’ve also gained many different ways of thinking about and seeing the world around me. Life is a one-time deal. I’ve decided to go out and discover myself anew. I’ll be back. Thank you for twenty years. And, PS: I plan to keep singing. I look forward to your support.
