A new strategy to build Australia’s robotics future

The National Robotics Strategy outlines how Australia can responsibly develop and adopt robotics and automation across our economy to maximise their benefits. It complements the government’s plan for a Future Made in Australia.

Robotics and automation technologies are crucial to Australia’s growth and future. They’ll help to scale our manufacturing sector and address labour shortages in other sectors already under pressure. This has the potential to add $170 billion to $600 billion per year to GDP by 2030.

The strategy will help government and industry build a stronger, more unified robotics ecosystem that will benefit the whole economy.

The strategy has 4 themes that will help achieve our vision of growing the robotics ecosystem:

  • national capability
  • increasing adoption
  • trust, inclusion, and responsible development and use
  • skills and diversity.

The strategy calls for a collaborative effort from government, industry, researchers and the wider community. This includes government supporting industry to develop and adopt Australian robotic solutions through the:

  • National Reconstruction Fund
  • Industry Growth Program
  • Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator

The National Robotics Strategy Advisory Committee guided us in developing the strategy. We also drew on public submissions, workshops and one-on-one interviews. As part of this work we:

  • received more than 100 submissions to the strategy discussion paper
  • engaged about 250 industry and academic groups through national workshops.

We’re grateful for the input we received throughout this process.
