Wichita County issues warning on cybersecurity incident in early May 2024

WICHITA COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — County officials have issued a warning regarding a cybersecurity incident they discovered in early May 2024 that may affect some residents’ information.

According to County Judge Jim Johnson, the county became aware of the incident on May 7.

As a result, the county brought in cyber security experts to help investigate, but Johnson said the investigation confirmed some county data was impacted, including sensitive and legally protected information.

He said they’re now in the process of reviewing the impacted data, will notify anyone affected as soon as possible, and will give them the information and resources needed to help them protect their personal information.
