Fort Worth to explore electric vehicles, other innovative technologies


In an effort to increase the sustainability and efficiency of its fleet vehicles, Fort Worth officials have been studying electric vehicles and other vehicular enhancements.

The details

According to a city news release, the city’s property management-fleet division will unveil a new mixer with features that include:

  • A fully integrated dash display for quick operator analysis of functions
  • Fully automated maintenance service reporting
  • A body design that can support collision avoidance technology

The news release states that the fleet division is also exploring electric vehicle options for much of its fleet, as well as enhancing other vehicles and equipment. The division has been working with local vendors to study electric vehicles of all sizes to help with several operational goals including:

  • Increased efficiency
  • More sustainability
  • Operator comfort
  • Maximizing return on investment

What’s next

According to the news report, fleet division officials have several meetings and demonstrations scheduled with vendors in fiscal year 2024-25 to discuss how emerging technologies can help in the vocational arena with regard to operator safety control systems that monitor usage, access and alerts.

“It’s important for the city to be very calculated and strategic in our approach with assets and technology that we adopt,” Brad Hunter, assistant director of property management-fleet division, said in the release. “Our main objective is to be very mindful of the advanced technology that will eventually become a part of our daily, overall operations.”
