Nio delivers record 20,544 cars in May

Nio (NYSE: NIO) saw record deliveries in May, despite not launching any all-new models so far this year, except for minor facelifts.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker delivered 20,544 vehicles in May, up 233.78 percent from 6,155 in the same month last year and up 31.52 percent from 15,620 in April, according to data it released today.
Nio’s SUVs delivered 12,164 vehicles in May, up 37.96 percent from 8,817 in April. Its sedan models delivered 8,380, up 23.18 percent from 6,803 in April.
The EV maker currently has eight models on sale — ES8, ES7, ES6, EC7, EC6, ET7, ET5, ET5 Touring — of which the first five are SUVs and the last three are sedans. Deliveries of the ET9 sedan, unveiled last December, will begin in the first quarter of 2025.
In January-May, Nio delivered 66,217 vehicles, up 50.99 percent year-on-year, CnEVPost’s calculations show.
Its SUV model delivered 38,790 vehicles in January-May, up 166.8 percent year-on-year, contributing 58.58 percent of total deliveries.
Sedan models delivered 27,427 vehicles in January-May, down 6.44 percent year-on-year, contributing 41.42 percent of total deliveries.
At the end of May, Nio’s cumulative deliveries since inception stood at 515,811 vehicles.

The deliveries consisted of 12,164 premium smart electric SUVs, and 8,380 premium smart electric sedans. Cumulative deliveries of NIO vehicles reached 515,811 as of May 31, 2024.
In May 2024, NIO further expanded its strategic cooperation on battery swapping by partnering with GAC Group and FAW Group, adding to a growing list of strategic partnerships that include its existing collaboration with Changan Automobile, Geely Group, JAC Group, Chery Automobile, and Lotus Technology.
