The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched a new course on Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics. Admission will entirely be based on JEE Advanced ranks and only 50 seats are on offer.
This course, in its first batch, is under the newly established Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, Professor B Ravindran, head, Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI at the institution said. The course code for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics is 412L.
Clarifying that there was no course earlier on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIT Madras, Ravindran said that while entering the course name at the JoSAA portal, it was taken as Data Science and Artificial Intelligence instead of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics. To avoid confusion among the prospective students registering for the programme at JoSAA, the josaa.nic.in has put up a notice now.
The JoSAA website notice said: “The course code and name of the following course at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai 4181: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (4 year BTech program) has been updated to 412L: Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (4 year BTech program)”

“This BTech course will offer a lot of academic flexibility, allowing students to tailor their learning journey through a wide range of electives from within the department and outside,” V Kamakoti, Director said.
From delving into the intricacies of speech and language technology, and computer vision to exploring applications in time-series analysis, students can delve deeper into areas of personal passion and interest, he added.
“The curriculum has evolved based on the experience gained by our faculty over more than a decade. Through this, IITM aspires to produce top-notch AI professionals, entrepreneurs and researchers who can take up with great confidence the grand AI challenges in the evolving market,” Kamakoti added.
The students registering for the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process and filling in their choices also have a prepayment provision. Candidates can pay their fees before the mock round and the start of seat allotment. Candidate registration and choice filling for academic programmes under JoSAA 2024 will end on June 18.
