Illinois Attorney General hosting cybersecurity symposium

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is holding a symposium on cybersecurity for business owners, government officials, directors of non-profit organizations and anyone interested in cybersecurity.

The second annual symposium will take place online on June 17 from 9:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and June 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Some sessions at the symposium will cover data security, organizational preparation and response, cybersecurity audits and threats posed by artificial intelligence, as well as an evaluation of the current cyberthreat landscape.

The Attorney General thanked regulatory leaders and law enforcement for speaking about their expertise at his event.

“In today’s environment of cyber threats, it’s not a matter of if, but when your organization will be attacked,” Raoul said. “It’s important to know how to protect yourself and how to respond after an attack has occurred. I am proud to offer this resource, and I encourage anyone who wants to learn more about cybersecurity to register for it.”

Speakers at the online event include representatives from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Federal Trade Commission, Federal Commerce Commission, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the U.S. Secret Service and the Attorney General’s Office.

“Though cyber crime is an unfortunate fact of life in our increasingly digital world, awareness is a powerful tool in the fight against it,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Wes Wheeler Jr., who is scheduled to speak at the event, said. “The FBI is proud to join with our partners to share cybersecurity best practices with our local community.”

The public is invited to attend the free symposium, but must first register at this link. A full list of topics covered and scheduled speakers is on the website for registering.
