Newsom Appoints Cybersecurity Integration Center Commander


Gov. Gavin Newsom has announced the appointment of Edward Bómbita as commander of the state’s Cybersecurity Integration Center within the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

Bómbita brings a lengthy cybersecurity resume to the new role, according to a press release issued Thursday. He served as the deputy director of the Identity Data Management Team at the U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet since 2023, and before that, he was the deputy officer in charge with the Special Activities Team with U.S. Army Cyber Command from 2019 to 2023.

He also served as the Cyber Task Force administrative officer and commander of the Cyber Protection Team 171 within the California National Guard and as a shift lead and analyst for the California Department of Technology’s Security Operations Center.

Bómbita holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business information systems from California State University, Fresno. His new role, for which the compensation is $167,460, does not require Senate confirmation.
