Cisco says it will open new cybersecurity center in Taiwan | Taiwan News

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — U.S. multinational communications giant Cisco said it will establish a cybersecurity center in Taiwan as it launched the third iteration of its “Taiwan Digital Acceleration Plan” on Monday (June 17).

In addition to cybersecurity, the Taiwan Digital Acceleration Plan 3.0 will reportedly cover artificial intelligence in areas including transport and sustainability operations at Kaohsiung port, per Reuters. The third iteration of the program was launched in Taipei at an event attended by Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) and Cisco’s global innovation officer Guy Diedrich.

“Cisco aims to collaborate with relevant tech associations to establish a security center in Taiwan for enhanced threat intelligence and cyber readiness,” the company said in a statement.

The company also said on Monday it is planning to partner with Taiwan’s government to train more people to work in cybersecurity to address global talent shortages.

Diedrich told reporters at the launch that “the nice thing about the digital acceleration program is that there is no ceiling on investments. We continue to make them.”

He did not say how much the company would invest in the project.

Diedrich told Hsiao he is hopeful for a fourth round of investment. Hsiao said she is grateful for Cisco’s continued presence in Taiwan.
