Ernst & Young has named Richard J. Green, Executive Chairman and Owner of Firstrust Bank, a winner of its esteemed Entrepreneur of the Year 2024 Greater Philadelphia Award. Green was celebrated, along with other esteemed business leaders, during a recent ceremony at Philadelphia Country Club.

Green was one of 30 regional entrepreneurs selected as finalists by an independent judging panel comprised of previous award winners, leading CEOs, and other business leaders. Candidates were evaluated based on their ability to create long-term value through entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to their purpose, and the demonstration of growth and substantial impact, among other key indicators.

“The Greater Philadelphia region is home to many esteemed business leaders, executives, and entrepreneurs who lead innovative companies and organizations,” said Green. “Being recognized as one of EY’s Entrepreneurs of the Year in this region is a tremendous honor, especially as Firstrust celebrates its first 90 years in business in 2024. This recognition underscores our enduring entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to innovation throughout nearly a century of service.”

Now in its 38th year, Entrepreneur of the Year is the preeminent competitive business award for audacious leaders who disrupt markets, revolutionize sectors, and have a transformational impact on lives.

Green was honored for his role in growing and transforming his family business, Firstrust Bank. He is the organization’s third generation of family leadership and served as Chief Executive Officer and Board Chairman until 2023, when he became Executive Chairman. Firstrust’s mission is to cultivate prosperity for its customers, its employees, and the communities it serves — and Green has lived this mission during his 46 years with the company.

“Richard is a proven leader whose vision has propelled Firstrust forward, which makes him so deserving of this honor,” said Tim Abell, CEO and President of Firstrust Bank. “His leadership and legacy have resulted in steady transformation, consisting of successful pivots, always positioning Firstrust to be uniquely global in capability, technology, and innovation, while remaining local and personal in service to customers.”

As a Greater Philadelphia Award winner, Green is now eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur of the Year 2024 National Awards.
