Shark Robotics showcases its Colossus fire-fighting UGV at Eurosatory 2024
La Rochelle-based company Shark Robotics has been focused on building uncrewed firefighting and EOD clearance systems since its formation in 2016. Developed through a partnership between Shark Robotics and the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP), Colossus is a tracked Uncrewed Ground System (UGV) capable of carrying a payload of up to 500kg and pulling a capacity of 650kg.
The vehicle is powered by six swappable lithium-ion batteries domestically produced by Shark Robotics and two electric motors, which ensure an endurance of up to 12 hours. It has a length of 1.6m and a width of 0.78m.
The UGV is fitted with a self-cooling system, which allows the platform to operate under extreme temperatures.
Thanks to the “plug & play” approach adopted throughout its development, the Colossus can be fitted with up to nine different mission modules, ranging from a water/foam monitor to a remotely controlled arm with a lifting capacity of 70kg.
The UGV can be remotely operated with a tablet from a distance of up to 1,000m.
Shark Robotics told Shephard that an AI-based solution for autonomous driving is currently under development and is slated to be launched by the end of 2024. The new feature will allow the platform to operate in “follow-me” mode, although the company has highlighted that the human factor will remain pivotal in controlling the uncrewed system.
In 2019, Colossus was employed for 10 hours by the BSPP during the Notre Dame de Paris fire.
