Andaman & Nicobar Administration Hosts Workshop on AI, ML and Data Analytics for Improved Governance

In a significant step towards leveraging emerging technologies for enhanced governance and improved public service delivery, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, with the assistance of the Wadhwani Foundation, organized a three-day comprehensive workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Generative AI, and Data Analytics. The training program focused on the application of these technologies in government processes to improve service delivery.
On June 19, 2024, the workshop targeted senior officers, including Secretaries and Heads of Departments (HODs). It aimed to provide participants with advanced knowledge and practical insights into how these transformative technologies can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations. The Wadhwani Foundation’s expert team meticulously curated the content, focusing on real-world use cases pertinent to the unique challenges and opportunities within the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
Emphasizing Digital Transformation:
The Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, was present throughout the workshop. In his opening remarks, Mr. Chandra emphasized the critical need for utilizing emerging technologies to digitally transform government processes, ensuring better delivery of public services.

Understanding AI and ML: Participants were introduced to the foundational concepts of AI and ML, exploring their potential applications in public administration. Generative AI Applications: The workshop showcased innovative uses of generative AI, demonstrating its capabilities in creating efficient workflows, generating actionable insights from large datasets, and improving citizen engagement through personalized services.
Data Analytics for Impact Measurement: Emphasis was placed on the role of data analytics in measuring the impact of various government programs. Participants explored methodologies for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to assess program effectiveness and make data-driven policy decisions.
Real-World Use Cases: The Wadhwani Foundation team presented successful case studies from other government bodies, illustrating how emerging technologies have been utilised to enhance service delivery. These examples provided valuable insights into the practical implementation of AI and data analytics in the public sector.
Commitment to Technological Advancement
In his welcome address, the Secretary of IT/AR, Mr. L. Kumar, IAS, highlighted the administration’s continuous efforts to sensitise officers and operational teams to various technologies, facilitating their use in daily operations. He noted that the three-day workshop aims to cover around 250 officers and staff, providing exposure and hands-on guidance for implementing these technologies.
The workshop marks a significant milestone in the Andaman & Nicobar Administration’s journey towards digital transformation, equipping its leaders with the tools and knowledge necessary to harness the power of AI, ML, and data analytics for improved governance and public service delivery.
