Charge+ partners Porsche to launch 1,700km electric vehicle charging network in Vietnam

Charge+, a Singapore-based electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions provider, has partnered German automobile manufacturer Porsche to launch a 1,700 kilometers (km) EV Charging Network in Vietnam that connects Vietnam’s two largest cities Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Charge+ said in a statement on Thursday that this initiative will see 17 Direct Current (DC) ultra-fast charging sites (Exhibit A) across the entire country over the next three years.

The first nine sites with charging speeds of up to 180 kilowatt (kW) power rating will be ready by the first half of 2025, located in key cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong and Da Nang.

The remaining eight sites will be completed by the first half of 2027.

It is noted that the two high-performance charging sites already available at Porsche Studio Hanoi and Porsche Centre Saigon will also be integrated into the Charge+ app.

When the Charge+ charging network is complete, it will mark a significant milestone for Vietnamese EV charging infrastructure, facilitating seamless and efficient journeys for EV drivers throughout the country.

Special benefits such as preferential charging rates will be accorded to new Porsche EV owners, with more benefits to be announced in the future.

This network will support Porsche’s roll-out of the new, all-electric Macan, as well as the comprehensively-refined Taycan.

This 1,700km EV charging network in Vietnam is highly synergistic with Charge+’s ongoing implementation of an EV charging highway that spans 5,000km across five Southeast Asia countries, namely Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, the longest EV charging backbone in the region.

As part of this Southeast Asia plan, Charge+ will be developing new charging sites to connect Ho Chi Minh City in the south of Vietnam with Phnom Penh, the capital of neighboring country Cambodia.

The duo completed a signing ceremony on Thursday to commemorate the launch of the new ultra-fast charging network.

“In line with our mission to catalyze electric mobility in Southeast Asia, Charge+ is now implementing a 5,000km EV charging highway that spans six countries that starts with Singapore and ends with Hanoi in Vietnam,” said Goh Chee Kiong, Chief Executive Officer of Charge+.

“We are most excited to partner Porsche, a visionary pioneer in EVs, to undertake the 1,700km Vietnam leg which represents a quantum leap in enhancing the EV charging experience in Vietnam,

“We are confident that this new charging backbone will boost confidence in long-distance driving and accelerate the EV transition in Vietnam,” he added.

Dr. Henrik Dreier, Director New Business Fields at Porsche Asia Pacific, also expressed his enthusiasm about this new ultra-fast charging network.

“We are immensely proud to spearhead the development of charging infrastructure in Southeast Asia, in line with our three-pronged charging strategy including convenient at-home charging solutions, Porsche Destination Charging at lifestyle locations, and seamless ultra-fast charging networks enabling long EV journeys,” he said.

He also said the partnership with Charge+ in Vietnam reflects this continuous commitment to delivering exceptional mobility solutions, driving sustainable progress in the region.

Andreas Klingler, General Director Porsche Vietnam, said that by establishing this new ultra-fast charging network with our partners, they want to unlock the possibility of fuss-free nationwide EV journeys for their customers, whilst also providing high levels of service and convenient charging solutions.

“EV owners in Vietnam can look forward to the possibility of inter-city EV journeys, and we look forward to making long-distance EV travel smoother, more seamless and easier than ever before,” he added.

With more than 2,000 EV charging points across Southeast Asia today, Charge+ is the largest EV charging operator in Singapore and a key player across the region.

The firm aims to operate 30,000 charging points by 2030.

With Singapore as the springboard, Charge+ also operates in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia.
