Transforming Europe towards a Sustainable Resource Management
Many European countries are realising the economic benefits of making more efficient use of material resources like metals, fossil fuels and minerals. But more action is needed to underpin this trend in resource efficiency with stronger policies on energy, material resources, waste management and on circular economy.
The European Environment Agency (EEA) now released factsheets on the current status of resource efficiency and circular economy in all 32 European countries as well as a general report. These studies have been conducted over the course of the last 18 months by the European Topic Centre Waste and Materials in Green Economy (ETC-WMGE), that counsels the EEA together with the Wuppertal Institute when it comes to transforming Europe towards a sustainable resource management, in cooperation with VITO. The result is an extensive report on the state of the art of the national resource efficiency and circular economy policies, strategies, aims, institutions and instruments of all 32 EU nations and those nations that co-operate with EEA.
The Survey has been presented to the public in an EEA Side Event during the Eighth Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference in Batumi/Georgia on 9 June. In a number of Webinars and Workshops on Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy will this catalogue be further developed, supervised together with the European Environment Information and Observation Network (Eionet) which the Wuppertal Institute is a part of.
The report and the profiles are available for download on the EEA website.
