At this time last year, there were 724 electric vehicles roaming the streets of Champaign County. The count as of March 2024, according to the state: 1,138.
Much the same way that the Illinois Department of Public Health kept a running log of COVID-19 vaccinations by ZIP code, the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office publishes monthly updates on the number of electric vehicles registered, from the area-leading 61822 (Champaign) to 22 area towns still without a Tesla, Chevy Bolt EV or other type of plug-in ride.
