DoT releases application schedule for 2024 spectrum auctions, ET Telecom


Mumbai: The telecom department has released a new schedule for application submission procedure for upcoming spectrum auctions which were postponed due to the Lok Sabha polls.

The last date for submitting bid applications has been moved by 15 days to May 6, as per the notification released by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of Monday.

The upcoming airwave sale which was supposed to begin on May 20 as per initial plan, were postponed to June 6, after the announcement of election results.

The mock auctions will now be held on June 3 instead of May 13 and 14.

As per Monday’s notification, the final list of bidders will be released on May 9.

The Union Cabinet, in February, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved auctions in eight spectrum bands for mobile phone services at a base price of Rs 96,317.65 crore.

The Ministry of Communication had announced auctions for spectrum in 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz frequency bands. The said spectrum will be offered with a validity period of 20 years.

The Cabinet during the meeting also decided to set up a Committee of Secretaries (CoS) to consider re-farming of existing spectrum usage to increase the spectrum availability to meet the future needs of telecommunication services.
