On March 11, Doosan Robotics held an opening ceremony for the “Electric Vehicle (EV) Automatic Charging Solution Pilot Station” at the LG Science Park in Gangseo District, Seoul, in partnership with LG Electronics, and commenced pilot operations, the company announced on March 16.

The newly developed EV automatic charging solution is a system that integrates a collaborative robot from Doosan Robotics with LG Electronics’ 100 kW fast charger.

The charging solution consists of a kiosk for vehicle recognition and payment and an automatic charging system.

When an EV parks in a designated charging area, a separate camera sends vehicle-related information to the system, and the driver completes the charging authentication.

Then, the collaborative robot, equipped with an AI-based 3D camera, detects the location of the EV’s charging port. The robot subsequently connects the charging cable to the EV’s charging port and begins charging.

Once charging is complete, the robot removes the charger from the port and returns it to its original position, and automatic payment is processed.
