A man struck by automobile in median seriously injured on I-985
On June 10th, Jhon M. Padilla Pereira, 22, of Tampa, Florida was seriously injured on I-985. Padilla crossed over the Northbound lane into the median to perform roadwork.
According to the initial report by the Georgia State Patrol, a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Kelley R. Shorts, 52 of Buford, had to slow abruptly due to traffic. The Hyundai traveled off the roadway to the left into the grass median. The Elantra struck a guardrail before striking Padilla.
The Georgia State Patrol responded to the accident at 8:57 a.m. The Hall County Fire/EMS were providing treatment to Padilla when Troopers arrived on the scene. Padilla was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team-B (SCRT-B) responded and is assisting with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed as of 6/10/2024.
