A Refreshed Version of Kia’s First Electric Vehicle for the U.S. Market
Kia is not slowing down when it comes to electric vehicles. Alongside the upcoming release of the Kia EV3 and EV4, the automaker is also working on a refreshed version of its first battery-electric vehicle for the U.S. market, the EV6. Despite being on sale for less than three years, Kia wants to ensure that the EV6 maintains a consistent design language with its newer models.
One of the key design elements that will be incorporated into the refreshed EV6 is the Star Map lighting, which features angular, super-thin LED lighting arrangements. At the front, the complex pattern of daytime running lights (DRLs) and projectors will be replaced by a simple, sharp C-shaped bracket that is pulled back towards the corners. This change will give the EV6 a more dynamic and distinctive appearance. Additionally, a body-colored spar will stretch across the front into the DRLs, separating the upper light from the main beams below.
At the rear, a thinner light bar will span from fender to fender, with the signature notches and hooks of the Star Map design linking the front and back of the vehicle. These changes in lighting design will truly make the refreshed EV6 stand out on the road.
In terms of performance, Kia is expected to follow in the footsteps of its corporate sibling, Hyundai, with regards to battery upgrades. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 recently received a larger 84.0-kWh battery, replacing the previous 77.4-kWh unit and providing an additional 20 miles of range. It is likely that Kia will offer similar battery upgrades for the EV6, while retaining a lighter 58.0-kWh battery for the entry-level Light RWD trim.
While minor changes to the interior may be expected, the original cabin design of the EV6 has held up well against newer electric vehicle interiors. However, some owners have requested the addition of a rear window wiper. Although it is unclear whether this feature will be included in the upcoming refresh, the teased back shot of the vehicle suggests that it may not be a part of the update.
As for the release date, it is speculated that the refreshed EV6 will arrive as a 2025 model. As Kia continues to solidify its commitment to electric vehicles, the upcoming updates to the EV6 will further bolster its position in the market.
In conclusion, Kia’s efforts to refresh the EV6 demonstrate the company’s commitment to evolving its electric vehicle lineup. With enhancements in design and potential battery upgrades, the refreshed EV6 is set to offer customers an even more impressive and dynamic electric driving experience.
