Apple CEO Tim Cook says they have advantages in generative AI space, hints at new announcements
Since OpenAI launched its generative AI chatbot, ChatGPT, the world hasn’t been the same. The AI tool not only became a part of lives of millions of people across the globe, but also began an AI race of sorts. After the launch of ChatGPT, companies like Google, Microsoft, X, and even Meta rolled out their own AI chatbots. Google has Gemini, Microsoft has Copilot, X has GrokAI and Meta has the recently-unveiled Meta AI. However, Apple has been missing from the scene till now. And that, as per CEO Tim Cook’s recent statements, might change soon.
Tim Cook on Apple’s AI plans
During an earnings call for the company’s first quarter, the Apple CEO dropped a hint about upcoming AI announcements. A report in CRN says that Cook mentioned how they have an advantage when it comes to the generative AI space and that he is excited to share announcements with customers soon.
“We continue to feel very bullish about our opportunity in generative AI we are making significant investments, and we’re looking forward to sharing some very exciting things with our customers soon,” he said as per the publication and added that the Cupertino-based tech giant has “advantages that will differentiate them in this new era, including Apple’s unique combination of seamless hardware, software and services integration.”
When Cook talked about generative AI earlier
This isn’t the first time that Cook has talked about Apple‘s plans with regards to generative AI. In February this year, during a shareholders call, Cook reportedly said that Apple will reveal more about its AI plans later this year. Not only this, he also talked about the Mac and said that there is no better computer in the market for AI than that.
A Reuters report had revealed that during an announcement at Apple’s annual shareholder meeting, Cook revealed the company’s plans to delve deeper into the realm of generative artificial intelligence (AI) later this year. The Apple CEO talked about Apple’s belief in the transformative potential of generative AI, stating that significant investments are being made in this field to unlock opportunities related to productivity and problem-solving.
Meanwhile, Apple is gearing up for two events in the near future – Let Loose on May 7 and WWDC in June. Both events are expected to feature latest Apple products and have some exciting announcements for customers in store. And who knows, Apple might just drop some AI-related announcements as well.
