AWS Launches Generative AI-Powered Assistants
Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the general availability of its generative artificial intelligence-powered assistants for software development and business decision-making.
One assistant, Amazon Q Developer, generates code, tests, debugs and implements new code generated from developer requests, the company said in a Tuesday (April 30) press release.
Amazon Q Developer generates code suggestions and recommendations in near real time, autonomously performs tasks like software upgrades, and performs security vulnerability scanning and remediation, the release said.
Another AI-powered assistant, Amazon Q Business, helps employees get answers to questions about company policies, product information, business results, code base, employees and other topics based on business data, according to the release.
Amazon Q Business connects to more than 40 commonly used business tools, maintains security and privacy, and enables business users to access insights, the release said.
“Since we announced the service at re:Invent, we have been amazed at the productivity gains developers and business users have seen,” Dr. Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of artificial intelligence and data at AWS, said in the release. “Early indications signal Amazon Q could help our customers’ employees become more than 80% more productive at their jobs; and with the new features we’re planning on introducing in the future, we think this will only continue to grow.”
AWS also launched Amazon Q Apps, a new capability that enables employees to build generative AI apps from their company’s data using only natural language, per the release.
For example, a human resources (HR) professional could use this capability to create an onboarding plan for a new employee based on the company’s existing best practices, the release said.
“Employees simply describe the type of app they want, in natural language, and Q Apps will quickly generate an app that accomplishes their desired task, helping them streamline and automate their daily work with ease and efficiency,” AWS said in the release.
The new offerings join some earlier deployments of the company’s generative AI assistant. In November, AWS unveiled Amazon Q in Connect, which provides customer service agents with real-time responses and recommended actions, and Amazon Q in AWS Supply Chain, which summarizes key risks and visualizes “what if” scenarios to optimize supply chain decisions.
