Bibb County School District embraces Generative AI in Classrooms – 41NBC News
The Bibb County School District uses the latest cutting edge technology responsibility.
BIBB COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –Heather Van Atta, a social studies teacher at Central High School, uses AI in her classroom.
Van Atta says she finds AI helpful in reaching students at their educational level, because not all students learn the same.
“One of the things that AI can really help with is not having to take a piece of text and type it yourself at a lower level or find something that is at varies levels. You can have AI reword something at a level for you.” Said Heather Van Atta, Social Studies teacher at Central High School in Bibb County.
According to Van Atta they closely monitor students use of AI tools, “with us being able to monitor everything we can make sure that they’re researching and that they’re using it more as a research tool, rather than an answer to a question.”
School administrators like Chief Information Officer Kevin Adams, and the AI Committee for the Bibb County School District, schools are given the latest AI technology, but they always want to make sure its used properly.
“We have the added obligation of making sure we honor any laws that are in pass, in particular privacy laws like FERPA, and so we’re very careful and diligent but as a district we want to make sure that we are exploring these new technologies to ensure that we are properly using them in the schools,” said Kevin Adams, the CIO at the Bibb County School District.
