JULIE HYMAN: Let’s talk about BlackBerry. Those shares are jumping after announcing a collaboration with AMD. And together the companies are looking to address the need for real time capabilities and robotics-focused hardware.

What does that mean? Well, it means that BlackBerry and AMD are going to help to provide some software for robotics in different uses here. We’re talking about industrial networking. We’re talking about health care. I think some health care applications, auto applications, which BlackBerry is already pretty active in.

JOSH LIPTON: Yeah, it sounds like– so basically, better robotics capabilities. So to your point, Julie, industrial, health care sectors, looks like those are going to be the targets. And basically, they’re combining BlackBerry software, it sounds like, with AMD’s hardware.

AMD exec quoted as saying, “The technology takes the future robotics technology well beyond the constraints experienced until now.” BlackBerry, of course, now known for cybersecurity software. It has been a challenge for that company, that stock.

You know, listen, it may get a pop today. It’s down more than 10% this year. It’s down about 30% over the past 12 months.

Not much love on the Street for BlackBerry either. Pretty much everybody is on the sidelines. But link yourself to AMD’s Lisa Su, that’s good for a pop.

JULIE HYMAN: Yeah, still outstanding is the question of whether BlackBerry is going to split itself into two. It had talked about doing that, cybersecurity on the one hand, internet of things on the other. But it hasn’t yet moved forward with that.
