BoJ considers allowing external access to CBDC data


The Bank of Japan published on April 22 an interim report on its central bank digital currency (CBDC), which raises the possibility of allowing external parties to tap into CBDC payment data.

Drawing on the digital euro as an example, the BoJ wants to separate payments data from personal data. The BoJ is also considering methods of allowing transaction data to be used in external services, with users’ consent. The central bank noted that if data can be shared “appropriately”, it could be useful
