Students from the Moapa Valley Robotics program recently presented a check for $1,000 to the Grant Bowler Elementary Dazzle Bots team to help support the younger team. The funds came from UNR extension 4-H Club community outreach to be used for STEM education in Moapa Valley.

The Dazzle Bots, a First Lego League team made up of students from Grant M. Bowler elementary school, have qualified through their State Championship to attend the national competition in California this summer. Initially, the team wasn’t sure that they would be able to attend the championships due to a lack of funds.

But several donations have recently been given to the team from businesses and organizations in Moapa Valley and Mesquite. The all-girls robotics team is very excited to have received these donations and glad that they are now able to attend the national competition.

“We are so thrilled that we are going to be able to attend Nationals thanks to the generous support of our local community,” said Dazzle Bots coach Denise Hoy. “The girls have worked so hard preparing for competition and also trying to help with fundraising.”

The Dazzle Bots are anticipating the experience and working diligently to improve their competitive edge before attending the competition. Now that they are financially able to attend the event, Hoy commented, the team is further able to focus on preparing for it.

“It is our goal as a club to grow and support STEM education in Moapa Valley, said Moapa Valley Robotics Club advisory Bryan Linford. “I’m very excited to see where the donation to the Bowler Dazzle Bots will take them.”

Coach Hoy and the Bowler Dazzle Bots would like to thank the following for generous donations: Moapa Valley Rotary, Brookes Goods Deeds, Wesley Lyon DPM, Bex Sunglasses, Pirates Landing, Moapa Valley Builders, Prestige Framing, Mesquite Plumbing, E.S. Electric, The Vissers, Xtreme Stitch, and the Moapa Valley Robotics club.
