BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – If you’re like me, you never watch the news anymore because all they want to run are stories of gloom and doom and, of course, agenda driven news articles.

Well, here at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, we love to share with our citizens all the great stuff our team does from taking criminals off our streets, working with local charities to keep Brevard the great place it is, and of course, the amazing life saving and life changing stories our team members are part of each and every day.

Stories like what happened this past week when one of our Telecommunicators, Christian Wark who was assigned to work one of our Fire/Rescue Consoles got a frantic call from a young man that his sister was about to give birth!

Christian quickly went through his protocols and verified that mom’s water had broke and the baby’s head was already crowning.

Christian provided the mom to be and her mom, who was now on the phone, with step by step instructions on exactly what to do as the rescue personnel were still moments away and the baby, well the baby was just simply refusing to wait.

From having the mom laid down on her back so as to not prevent the birth, to instructing them to grab some dry clean towels to clean and wrap the baby and mom in when the baby was delivered, Christian was completely in control and while he may have internally panicked, he never let it show to those who were desperately depending on him.

Thanks to Christian’s help and knowledge the baby was suddenly delivered and could be heard crying and making those awesome new baby noises.

Even with that, Christian wasn’t done, as he directed that the baby be kept level with the mother’s bottom and that the baby’s mouth and nose be cleaned and free from any obstruction.

Soon after, the team from Rescue 88 arrived on scene and gave the medical clearance for both mom and newborn baby who were transported to a nearby hospital for medical attendance.

I could not be more proud of Christian for all he did to provide assistance during this very stressful time for all involved.

Christian not only stayed calm himself but through his calm demeanor was able to keep both mom to be and everyone else at the residence calm with assurance, that everything was going to be ok.

Folks, this is the kind of life changing actions our team members and our partners at Brevard County Fire Rescue encounter each and every day as they go to work with only one thing in mind…keeping our citizens safe.

Great job Christian!

– Sheriff Wayne Ivey
