Burkhart quoted in article on electric vehicle tariffs

School of Public Service Professor Ross Burkhart was recently quoted in a PolitiFact article about the impact of tariffs on the American public and the impact, specifically on electric vehicles from China.
Burkhart, a political scientist specializing in trade policy, discussed who will be most affected by the tariffs and the extent to which the impacts will be felt.
“The consensus has not changed: Tariffs are regressive, in that the people with lowest means will be paying the most when a tariff is placed on a good,” Burkhart says in the article. But, he also adds that electric vehicles “are still a niche product” that most individuals won’t be looking to buy yet, suggesting the total impact on the American public will be minimal.
