Cavo Dragone: “Artificial intelligence will revolutionize everything, but we need to be prepared”
Artificial intelligence will revolutionize the way we do everything, but the associated risk is that of using it without adequately preparing organizations for change, including through staff training. The Chief of the Defense Staff said this: Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, speaking with a video message at the Forum on Artificial Intelligence, underway at Palazzo Impero.
In a context of global competition, “disputes often take place over the search for talent and the most advanced capabilities from a technological point of view and defense is also called upon to encourage an inter-departmental and inter-agency comparison, as well as a pragmatic dialogue with private sector actors to face the challenges of the future with awareness”, specified the Chief of Staff. Cavo Dragone added that the “Defense, as part of the strategy to transform the military instrument, decided to approve a multidisciplinary approach, and today’s forum is a significant step for training”.
Training must be modeled on the digital context and must be inspired by modern educational models, which is why “we have promoted collaboration with the academic world”, he continued. During the speech, Cavo Dragone highlighted the advantages of AI, but also the critical issues, stating that “the technological process will be a front for prosperity for the community”, but “it will be fundamental to delve deeper into the man-machine implications”, addressing the opportunities, but “dealing with ethical and legal questions”.
