China-based BYD Company has come a long way in producing electric-beam hybrid cars; it recently launched the latest generation of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) that do not require recharging after a distance of more than 1,300 miles.

With the popularity of PHEVs on the market, this achievement has helped improve the nation’s shift from dependence on fossil fuels to green vehicles. The new generation of PHEV models, which include Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i, come fitted with a fifth-generation plug-in hybrid powertrain with an ultra-efficient.

The new generation boasts a 5. 0-liter V8 petrol engine complemented by two electrical motors. Displacing a rated output of 940 kW, the engine has a thermal efficiency of 46. 6L/100km, the best of all similar cars. With a top speed of 284 km/h, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in merely 5 seconds

BYD’s new PHEV powertrain is closely related to the Twin Mode System, which includes the thermal and energy systems. They have incorporated cooling modules for front-end body parts, batteries, and in-car infotainment software and optimize efficient energy consumption.

The Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i models come with two battery options: 10. 08 kWh and 15. 78 kWh. The base versions with the battery coupled to an electric motor of 161 hp start as low as CNY 100,000, equivalent to $13,750, and offer an all-electric range of only 50 miles.

The market for PHEVs is becoming very competitive in China, and other automotive manufacturers like Chery and Dongfeng have started to offer their PHEV models. However, there are ways in which BYD is a step ahead of the other players in the industry, such as technology and efficiency.

This new electric engine will be a giant step forward in the industry, something that China is unwilling to share with the rest of the world.
