China EV battery installations in Apr: CATL share 44.65%, BYD 28.37%


CATL‘s share in April decreased by 0.22 percentage points from March, while BYD‘s increased by 1.58 percentage points.

CATL’s share of China’s electric vehicle (EV) battery market decreased slightly in April from March, while BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) increased, as the latter’s new energy vehicle (NEV) sales grew further.

In April, China’s power battery installations amounted to 35.4 GWh, up 40.9 percent year-on-year and up 1.4 percent from March, according to data released today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

CATL’s power battery installed capacity in April was 15.65 GWh, ranking first with a 44.65 percent share, down 0.22 percentage points from March’s 44.87 percent share.

BYD’s power battery installed capacity in April was 9.95 GWh, ranking second with a 28.37 percent share, up 1.58 percentage points from 26.79 percent in March.

BYD’s rise in share last month could be attributed to further growth in its NEV sales. The company sold 313,245 NEVs in April, up 3.57 percent from 302,459 in March.

CALB’s power battery installations in April amounted to 2.54 GWh, placing it in third place with a 7.24 percent share, up 0.58 percentage points from 6.66 percent in March.

Eve Energy ranked fourth in April with an installed base of 1.44 GWh and a 4.11 percent share.

China’s lithium ternary battery installed capacity in April was 9.9 GWh, accounting for 28 percent of the total, up 24.1 percent year-on-year, but down 12.2 percent from March.

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries were installed at 25.5 GWh, accounting for 71.9 percent of the total, up 48.7 percent year-on-year and up 7.8 percent from March.

CATL, CALB, and Svolt Energy were the top three in terms of installed capacity of ternary batteries in April, with shares of 69.24 percent, 10.35 percent, and 6.69 percent, respectively.

In the LFP battery market, BYD, CATL, and CALB were the top three in terms of installed capacity in April, with shares of 39.05 percent, 35.46 percent, and 6.08 percent, respectively.
